In recent years undergraduate admissions has changed significantly. Many faculty have little knowledge of admission criteria, how different categories are prioritized and how do they all fit together. Moreover, the faculty wish to ensure that all admitted students, regardless of their educational background, are provided with all of the support necessary for becoming successful at Yale.
The committee will work together with the Office of Admissions, Yale College and various academic departments and programs to find out what are the main challenges, and what can be done to overcome them. It will look into whether academic adjustments need to be made to better support incoming students. The Undergraduate Admissions and Education Committee also seeks a coherent understanding of the process and goals of university admissions. It will work to find and recommend ways to make faculty better informed about the admissions process, as well as to increase faculty input in both the vision and the practice of Yale undergraduate admissions.
